| About | This exquisite set of ten hand-painted silk panels depicting flowers and birds is a masterpiece by Giuseppe Castiglione (known in Chinese as Lang Shining). Born in Milan, Italy, in 1688, Castiglione passed away in 1766. In 1715—the 54th year of the reign of the Kangxi Emperor—he arrived in China as a Jesuit missionary and subsequently entered the Ruyi Guan (Imperial Painting Workshop) to serve as a court painter. |
